Why Your Stream Looks Blurry (and How to Sharpen It)
Blurry usually isn't your camera — it's bitrate, resolution scaling, or downscale filtering. Check these four.
A soft, smeary stream is almost always too little bitrate for the resolution you chose. Fast-moving games need far more data than a chatting stream — starve them and everything turns to mush.
1. Match bitrate to resolution
1080p60 typically wants around 6000 kbps; 720p60 around 4500. If your connection can't sustain that, stream at a lower resolution rather than a starved higher one — clean 720p beats mushy 1080p every time. Check yours with the bitrate calculator.
2. Fix downscale filtering
In Settings → Video, set Downscale Filter to Lanczos if you're scaling from a higher base resolution. Bilinear is the default and is noticeably softer.
3. Check your base vs output resolution
Odd scaling ratios cause blur. If your base is 1920×1080, output at 1920×1080 or 1280×720 — not something in between like 1600×900.
4. Give it time to settle
Twitch and YouTube start every stream at low quality and ramp up over the first minute. Don't judge sharpness from the first thirty seconds.
