Twitch VODs and Highlights: What to Keep and Why
VODs expire. Highlights don't. Here's what to save and how to use it.
Twitch stores VODs for 14 days (60 for affiliates and partners), then deletes them. Highlights are permanent — so anything worth keeping needs converting before the clock runs out.
Turn on VOD saving
Settings → Stream → Store past broadcasts. It's off by default for some accounts, which people discover far too late.
Make highlights of the good bits
From the Video Producer, trim a section and save as a Highlight. These stay forever and show on your channel page.
Download what matters
For anything you'll edit into YouTube or TikTok content, download the VOD rather than relying on Twitch keeping it.
Watch for muted audio
Copyrighted music mutes sections of VODs. Another reason to use stream-safe music on your Starting Soon screen.
Look good in the replay too
A cohesive overlay makes VODs and highlights worth reposting.
