What Music to Play on Your Starting Soon Screen
The safest sources for stream-legal music, and how loud it should actually be.
Use music explicitly licensed for streaming. Popular safe sources include Pretzel, StreamBeats, Epidemic Sound and Twitch's own Soundtrack. Regular Spotify or YouTube music will get your VODs muted or struck.
Lofi is the default for a reason
It's unobtrusive, loops without fatigue, and fits cozy channels. It also doesn't fight your voice when you start talking over it.
Keep it quiet
Waiting music should sit noticeably below your voice level โ around -25dB in OBS is a common starting point. If viewers reach for their volume slider, it's too loud.
Fade it when you start
Duck or stop the music when you switch to your Main scene. Music continuing under conversation is the most common audio annoyance on small streams.
Match the sound to the screen
A rainy lofi bedroom scene with soft piano is a coherent moment; the same music over a neon cyberpunk screen isn't. Pick your screens and your playlist together.
