Should You Make Your Own Overlay or Buy One?

If you already design and animate, make it — nothing matches a look you built yourself. If you don't, buying is almost always the better trade, and it's not close once you count the hours.

The real risk of DIY
Not ugliness — inconsistency. Homemade sets tend to have a great Starting Soon screen and mismatched everything else, and mismatch is exactly what reads as 'new channel'.
