How to Use Scenes in OBS (The Setup Most Streamers Should Copy)

Four scenes cover almost every stream. Here's what goes in each and how to switch cleanly.

Most streams need exactly four scenes: Starting Soon, Main, BRB and Ending. Build those, hotkey them, and you've covered 95% of what happens on a stream.

What goes in each

Starting Soon: the animated screen plus music, nothing else. Main: game capture, camera frame, alerts. BRB: the BRB screen and music, camera off. Ending: the ending screen and your socials.

Hotkey the switches

Settings โ†’ Hotkeys lets you bind each scene. Being able to hit BRB without alt-tabbing is the difference between a smooth break and a minute of dead air on camera.

Reuse sources instead of duplicating

Copy a source and Paste (Reference) so one edit updates every scene. Duplicating instead means changing your camera frame four times.

Add a Just Chatting scene if you talk a lot

A fifth scene with a bigger camera and a cozy background is worth it if you open with chat. Packs in the shop include the screens for all of these in one style.
