What Is OBS Studio Mode (and Should You Use It)?
Preview before you cut. Useful for some streams, unnecessary overhead for others.
Studio Mode splits OBS into two views: Preview (what you're setting up) and Program (what's live). You arrange the next scene privately, then hit Transition to push it out.
When it's genuinely useful
Multi-scene streams, interviews, events, and anything where you're building a scene while live. Viewers never see you dragging sources around.
When it's just clutter
Solo gaming streams with four fixed scenes don't need it. It halves your preview size and adds a click to every switch.
How to turn it on
The Studio Mode button sits bottom-right in OBS. Preview is on the left, live on the right, transition controls in the middle.
The mistake to avoid
Editing sources in Preview and forgetting to Transition — so your changes never go live. If viewers say nothing changed, that's usually why.
