How to Read Your Twitch Analytics (Without Spiralling)

Four numbers that matter, and the ones that will just make you miserable.

Track four things: average viewers, unique viewers, follows per stream, and chatters. Everything else on that dashboard is noise for a small channel.

Average viewers vs peak

Peak flatters you; average tells the truth and is what Affiliate measures. Watch the trend across a month, never a single stream.

Unique viewers tells you about discovery

Rising uniques with flat average means people find you but don't stay โ€” that's a retention problem: your first impression, your title, or the stream's energy.

Chatters over viewers

Five people talking is a healthier channel than twenty silent lurkers. Community is what survives an algorithm change.

Don't check mid-stream

Watching the counter while live changes how you perform and never helps. Review weekly, adjust one thing, move on.

Fixing retention

If people arrive and leave, look at what they land on: a blank screen, unclear title, or default layout. A cohesive look is the cheapest retention fix.

Fix the first impression

A cohesive cozy channel makes new arrivals stay long enough to matter.
