How to Organize Your Stream Files (So Nothing Breaks Later)
OBS sources break when files move. Five minutes of structure now saves an hour of red text later.
OBS stores the file path, not the file. Move or rename anything after adding it and the source goes red with 'missing file'. A stable folder structure prevents the whole category of problem.
One folder, four subfolders
Make a Stream folder with Screens, Alerts, Panels and Emotes inside. Unzip every pack into it rather than leaving files in Downloads — Downloads is where files go to get deleted.
Never work from Downloads or Desktop
Both get cleaned out, synced, or tidied. That's the number one cause of overlays vanishing between streams.
Back up your scene collection
Scene Collection → Export saves your entire layout as one file. Do it after any big setup change — recovering from a corrupted profile takes seconds instead of an evening.
Keep the originals
Hold on to the original download. If you ever need to re-add a source or move PCs, you'll want the untouched files rather than whatever survived.
One tidy download per pack
Everything organised by type — screens, alerts, panels — ready to drop into your Stream folder.
