How to Improve Your Webcam Quality (Without Buying a New One)
Most bad webcam footage is lighting and settings. Five free fixes before you spend anything.
Cheap webcams look bad mostly because of light, not the sensor. Fix the light and the same camera can look dramatically better โ try these before buying anything.
1. Light your face from the front
A lamp or ring light in front of you, slightly above eye level. A window behind you turns you into a silhouette; a window in front of you is free studio lighting.
2. Turn off auto-exposure
In OBS, open the camera's properties โ Configure Video โ disable auto exposure and white balance, then set them manually. Auto modes hunt constantly and cause that pulsing brightness.
3. Add Color Correction
A small saturation and contrast bump in OBS filters fixes the washed-out look most webcams have by default.
4. Clean the lens
Genuinely. Webcam lenses collect dust and fingerprints and nobody ever checks.
5. Frame it well
Camera at eye level, you slightly off-centre, tidy background. Then put it in a matching frame โ presentation does a lot of the work.
