Where small-channel money actually comes from
For most sub-100-viewer channels it's tips and one-off support, not subs. A visible, low-friction donation panel usually out-earns the sub button early on.
The payout threshold
Twitch pays out at $50 minimum. Small channels often sit below that for months, so plan around it rather than being surprised.
Diversify early
Channels that make real money usually sell something of their own — art, commissions, merch, a Ko-fi. It doesn't have to be big, but it shouldn't all depend on one platform's split.
